George Beverly Shea is the icon of many Billy Graham Crusades all over the world. Singing in acapella most of the time, he has such an anointing to usher the wonderful presence of God in the gathering. He was invited to this Gaither Vocal Band Homecoming Concert, “God Bless America” and George Beverly Shea sang one of his favorite classic hymn: “How Great Thou Art.” What a blessing!
“The Gaither Vocal Band is an American southern gospel vocal group, named after its founder and leader Bill Gaither. Founded in the early ’80s, Gaither Vocal Band is one of America’s leading faith-based vocal groups. While Gaither remained the only original member of the ensemble, many well-regarded CCM/gospel singers have passed through the band’s ranks, including Russ Taff, Guy Penrod, Wes Hampton, Michael English, Mark Lowry, and David Phelps. On March 1, 2017, it was announced that the Gaither Vocal Band lineup consisted of Reggie Smith, Wes Hampton, Adam Crabb, Todd Suttles, and Bill Gaither. Although the group started out recording contemporary Christian music in the 1980s, it became known for southern gospel after the popularity of the Gaither Homecoming videos.” (Source: Wikipedia)

How Great Thou Art Lyrics
Oh Lord my God
When I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds
Thy hands have made
I see the stars
I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout
The universe displayed
Then sings my soul
My Savior, God, to Thee
How great thou art
How great thou art
Then sings my soul
My Savior, God, to Thee
How great Thou art
How great Thou art
And when I think of God,
His son not sparing,
Sent Him to die,
I scarce can take it in;
That on the cross, my burden
Gladly bearing He bled and died
To take away my sin
When Christ shall come
With shout of acclamation
And take me home
What joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow
With humble adoration
And then proclaim My God
How great Thou art
Then sings my soul
My Savior, God, to Thee
How great Thou art
How great Thou art
Then sings my soul
My Savior, God, to Thee
How great Thou art
How great Thou art
Then sings my soul
My Savior, God, to Thee
How great Thou art
How great Thou art
Then sings my soul
My Savior, God, to Thee
How great Thou art
How great Thou art
How great Thou art
How great Thou art

When I was around 14 years old I had the privilege of hearing all his songs and other wonderful singers and preachers…Our, just saved Preacher, at the small Church across the street from my growing up home, where my Dad was a Deacon and Founding Father of SOUTHSIDE BAPTIST CHURCH…Bro Bob was a personal friend of George, as
his Dad was…Dad was the Pastor of the largest Church in Shreveport, LA and Father of Bro Bob Buchanon and his singing wife, beautiful Sammy…I think all the bigies came to keep an eye on our young preacher as the talk was he was quite a rounder…but we all know, thw miracles God can work….He blessed Bro Bob and all in that small Church…little Church in the wildwood!…and we sang that nearly every Sunday. My cousin and I used to sing…IN THE GARDEN…she was the singer, I was the show-Off!…LOL…Memories

My first experience hearing George Beverly Shea live was in the Dallas Cotton Bowl for the Billy Graham Crusade in 1953. I was stunned by the beautiful rendition of How Great Thou Art he sang. I was a fan of his from that point forward. Many years later, I saw a video of Mr. Shea’s memorial service in the chapel at Montreat, North Carolina near Dr. Graham’s mountain home. It was one of the most moving tributes I had ever witnessed. The background of Bev Shea is an awesome testimony to his faith and his love of the Lord’s calling to share his talents all over the world. God bless his memory and all those who loved his talents as I did.
